Google Maps enhances the student's ability to view and understand the world in new and exciting ways. Google Maps gives students the ability to build tours, measure distances, look at directions, and compare different kinds of maps. This tool can help students build skills that will benefit them in the classroom, such as learning locations of countries and states and information on geographical tools.
Mapzone is ideal for those interested in adding some gamification to their learning. Some students learn more effectively when the learning process is actually a game. Games provide students more flexibility, opportunities for autonomous learning, and, most importantly, a sense of fun. Students can practice map skills, play geography-related games, and use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to learn more about their world.
This tool is a powerful and free office suite of applications. We support and recommend its use for anyone who does not have access to the Micorsoft Office 365 Suite. It includes software for creating spreadsheets, presentations, text documents, and more. It offers many of the editing features found in traditional office suite software, in a clean and easy to use interface.
This Google tool allows students to go on a virtual adventure with a popular book character of their choice, using Google's immersive 3D technology. This site provides an excellent opportunity to contextualize a geographical location within the scope of popular literature, providing students a holistic view of time periods, geography, and the people who occupied different lands at different times.
National Geographic Education provides free, informative lessons for students across disciplines. The link provided leads to the Geography section of the website. Students can test their knowledge at home to ensure they are prepared for class activities, presentations, and discussions. Students can choose to test their knowledge on a variety of countries, including the United States.
