As educators, we believe that all student voices are valid and deserve to be heard, regardless of individual differences in nation, creed, orientation, identity, color, or ability. We recognize that the students of today are the builders of the future. We value the student’s viewpoint, and vow to teach in a manner that can be adapted to different student needs. We believe that differing needs and backgrounds only enhance the learning environment, by providing all students with the opportunity to interact with those who are different from them. Differences should be celebrated in the classroom, and not hidden or ignored.
It is important to us as educators to focus on bringing active learning into the classroom, and we believe our flipped classroom model can help us achieve that. Stimulating activity helps students learn, and activity can be incorporated into the classroom in many ways to make students feel more comfortable and confident. We also want to focus on using a variety of teaching methods in our class, including group work, quizzes, writing projects, and interactive presentation. We believe that students need to be engaged in order to learn, and it is the teacher’s job to provide that engagement. Using active learning and a variety of teaching methods will enable us to provide students with an engaging, stimulating, and individualized learning experience.
